Behind the Scenes with Grade School

Grade School is an Indie band consisting of six members: Pete Larson (acoustic guitar, vocals), Jack Laskey (lead guitar, synth, bells), Zach Evans (drums), Connor Gaughan (bass), Maddie Brennan (piano, vocals), and Andy DeVelvis (rhythm guitar, vocals). The band started out as a recording project between Pete and Jack last year, and has now accumulated the remaining four members that make up the band on the rise, known as Grade School. The band sat down with Jukebox after their video shoot to share their thoughts on the events that took place that day.
Jukebox: What was your favorite part of today’s shoot?
Pete Larson:Seeing Zach behind the drums. He has great looks and I think he really adds the commercial look we need to this band.
Zach Evans: I enjoyed the pizza and donuts.
Maddie Brennan:I was very pleased and thought it was very cute! It fit well, and you guys did a kickass job.
Jack Laskey:I didn’t think it was cute at all. I loved it! I thought it was rad and evil!
Zach Evans:I thought the fog made quite the atmosphere for Grade School! I enjoy fog.
Jukebox: Who is your favorite crewmember?
Grade School:Nose bleed guy!
Connor Gaughan:I got along with nose bleed guy. His name’s Matt, right?
It’s between him and Oregon t-shirt guy, he just seems mysterious.
Jukebox: Was it more distracting to play in a studio with lights,
a set, multiple cameras in your face, etc. than at a venue with a live audience?
Pete Larson:I thought the zooming cameras and everything were slightly
distracting and hard to not make eye contact with, but I liked it… a lot.
Jukebox: Were there any flops in today’s shoot that you played off?
Maddie Brennan:There were a lot of flops that we played off! I’m not that good at playing them off though
because I usually make a face like, “oh, shit! I shouldn’t have done that”.
Jack Laskey:I played absolutely perfect.
Zach Evans:I don’t believe in flops.
Andy DeVelvis: Flops? Probably three times a take I’d just be like “f&ck!”, and hope we did it again.
