Behind the Scenes with Turning Pages
Lindsay Brewer - Jukebox PR
Turning Pages is an Athens, OH based band consisting of five guys: Michael La Torre (lead vocals, harmonica), Nick La Torre (lead guitar, backing vocals), Michael Schenk (rhythm guitar, mandolin), Luke Wright (bass guitar), and Colin Blankinship (drums). These guys play what they want, regardless of ties on genre. They try not to make a song have a certain sound, and just like to let the music flow. The band sat down with Jukebox after their video shoot, to share their thoughts on the events that took place that day.
Jukebox: What was your favorite part of today’s shoot?
Nick La Torre: The pizza!
Michael La Torre: Well, it definitely wasn’t almost breaking my leg twice haha,
but just rocking out to the last song at the end was pretty bad ass.
Michael Schenk: I thought it was awesome! The smoke kicked ass! Everything about today was sweet! It was amazing.
Michael La Torre: The fog definitely though, I felt like I was in unsolved mysteries or something.
Jukebox: Who is your favorite crewmember?
Turning Pages: Everyone. I didn’t have a favorite. Jared was pretty cool out there, though. He kept smokin’ us up.
You also have to have mad love for that Stoner dude! And whoever was rockin’ the lights! And of course Matt was super helpful!
Jukebox: Was it more distracting to play in a studio with lights,
a set, multiple cameras in your face, etc. than at a venue with a live audience?
Michael Schenk: At a venue, the crowd is what fuels me and gives me all the energy to fall on the floor and stuff, but this time I just imagined that the cameras were the fans and I did the exact same thing I always do. I went insane.
Colin Blankinship: I wouldn’t say one was better than the other, but they were definitely different experiences.
Luke Wright: See, when someone tells me not to look at a camera, I’m gonna look at the camera. Which is what I kept doing. Which is why I’m probably not gonna be on tv a lot.
Jukebox: Were there any flops in today’s shoot that you played off?
Nick La Torre: Like every first take sucked! I actually came down for a really hard stroke
on the guitar and missed the strings entirely one time!
Michael La Torre: I mainly had issues with that stage up there. That stage and I weren’t getting along! I about fell on my face like five times. I think I almost hit myself in the yams one time, I don’t remember.
Luke Wright: Uh, let’s be quite honest, I play the bass. No one ever listens to the bass, so if I screw up it really doesn’t matter that much. When I fell down, almost tripped over my amp, that was kind of exciting and embarrassing at the same time, so that was my biggest flop of today.
